Friends of Mount Aventine: Introduction

THE CURRENT STATUS: DETERMINING THE FUTURE MANAGEMENT OF STATE-OWNED CHAPMAN FOREST

In the year 2000 the State of Maryland initiated a process for determining how Chapman Forest would be managed. The Maryland Department of Natural Resources established a Citizens' Advisory Committee (CAC) of nine persons, some of whom had supported the development and others of whom had supported preservation. DNR also established three Work Groups to advise the CAC: the Natural Resources Work Group; the Historical and Cultural Resources Work Group; and the Public Access and Use Work Group. By the beginning of this summer, all three work groups had made reports to the CAC. We would like to have all three of these reports on these web pages. As of now, the report of the History and Cultural Resources work group is available here.
